Things to Do While You're Here
Our Personal Recommendations
If we had to pick just a few things, these would be at the top of our list:
-
If you have some extra time during your visit, we highly recommend spending a day exploring both Banff and Canmore. While they're only about 20 minutes apart, each has its own unique charm, roughly 1 hour and 20 minutes from Calgary.
Canmore is a little quieter and less crowded, with a welcoming small-town mountain feel. It's one of our favourite places to wander, grab a coffee, and enjoy the incredible scenery. There are plenty of great local restaurants, and if you're looking for a breakfast recommendation, don't miss Rocky Mountain Bagel Co.—their bagel sandwiches are a must-try.
Banff tends to be busier and more tourist-oriented, but for good reason. From strolling down the iconic Banff Avenue to soaking in the Banff Upper Hot Springs, riding the Banff Gondola, or visiting the beautiful Fairmont Banff Hotel, there's no shortage of things to see and do. Whether you're looking for adventure, sightseeing, or simply taking in the mountain views, Banff offers a little bit of everything and is well worth the visit.
-
No trip to the Canadian Rockies feels complete without a visit to Lake Louise. While November is considered the off-season, it can actually be one of the nicest times to visit. You'll typically find fewer crowds than during the busy summer months, making it easier to take in the incredible mountain scenery and enjoy the area at a more relaxed pace.
That said, Lake Louise remains one of Canada's most popular destinations, so it can still be busy, especially on weekends. Depending on the weather, you may even get a glimpse of the lake beginning its transition into winter, surrounded by snow-capped peaks and the stunning Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. Whether you're stopping for a scenic walk, a coffee with a view, or simply a few photos, it's a destination that's well worth the trip.

One of our favourite ways to enjoy Calgary is by spending time along the Bow River pathways. Stretching throughout the city, the pathway system offers beautiful views of the river, downtown skyline, and some of Calgary's most scenic parks and neighbourhoods.
Whether you're looking for a relaxing walk, a morning coffee stroll, or just a chance to get some fresh air, the Bow River is a great way to experience the city beyond the usual tourist spots. If the weather cooperates, we recommend taking a walk through Prince's Island Park or along the river pathways near downtown to enjoy a little slice of everyday Calgary.

One of the best ways to experience Calgary is by exploring some of its unique neighbourhoods. Each area has its own personality, from trendy cafés and local boutiques to great restaurants, breweries, and hidden gems that you won't find in a typical travel guide.
If you're looking for a place to wander, we recommend checking out Kensington, Inglewood, and 17th Avenue. Kensington offers a relaxed, walkable atmosphere with plenty of cafés and shops, Inglewood is Calgary's oldest neighbourhood with a great mix of local businesses and character, and 17th Avenue is known for its lively restaurant and nightlife scene. Whether you're grabbing a coffee, shopping, or looking for a great meal, these neighbourhoods are some of our favourite places to spend an afternoon in the city.
